Day 1Early pick from Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport or a city hotel and transfer to Wilson Airport for the scheduled flight to Samburu National Park, with possibly seeing sights of the spectacular Mt Kenya, Africa’s second highest mountain en route. Upon arrival, you will be met by a guide from the lodge and enjoy a game drive to the lodge. Following lunch, there is an afternoon game drive returning to lodge as the sun sets. Day 2Morning and afternoon game drives in the park. Samburu is home to many uncommon species such as reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebra, Beisa oryx and the long-necked gerenuk antelope to name just a few. There are also many lion, cheetah and leopard to spot as well as huge crocodiles in the rivers. Day 3Following breakfast, there will be a game drive transfer back to the airstrip for the scheduled flight to Nairobi. Upon arrival, you will be met and transferred to a city centre hotel where your safari ends.
This safari can also be extended with additonal nights in Samburu. Sarova Shaba Lodge Shaba Game Reserve, made famous by the late Joy Adamson and her lioness Elsa, is often referred to as ‘Born Free Country’. Located on the banks of the Uaso Nyiro River, Sarova Shaba offers a luxury seldom found in a large African bush lodge. There are 80 chalet rooms, or for those of you looking for a little extra luxury, Sarova Shaba has four junior suites and one honeymoon suite. Hardwoods, cane furniture and local textiles create a calm and pleasing ambience. The tranquil flow of sparkling spring water throughout the grounds creates an atmosphere of peace and serenity as it collects and cascades. Shaba boasts a unique collection of game only found in the region including reticulated giraffe, Grevy's zebra, gerenuk and Beisa oryx, as well as 150 recorded bird species. For a close inspection of the game take a game drive with one of the experienced guides, returning to the lodge for a hearty breakfast in the splendid Restaurant overlooking the Uaso Nyiro River. You might spend the rest of the day relaxing by the beautiful free-form swimming pool. When the heat recedes towards the end of the afternoon, another game drive is a good idea to capture animals coming down to the river to drink. Return in time for a reviving sundowner and watch the crocodiles climb out of the river to be fed. Early evening entertainment is provided by local Samburu dancers, followed by a delicious dinner in the restaurant. |
