Following lunch, there will be an afternoon game drive returning to camp as the sun sets. Overnight at an Tortilis Camp on a full board basis. Amboseli One of the most popular parks in Kenya, we think it is a real gem. Forming part of a massive eco-system, the park itself is only 392 sq km and is situated at the foot of Africa’s highest mountain, Kilimanjaro. This great mountain forms the backdrop to most photographers’ pictures and on a clear day, the snowy peak of Kibo is seen. Elephants abound in the forest and swamps, feeding on the lush papyrus and other grasses. Cheetah, lion and many hyena can also be seen on the salt flats or in the forests. Giraffe, zebra and wildebeest are always spotted on the open plains or congregating at the edge of the swamps. Day 2Full day game viewing in the park with possible clear views of the highest mountain in Africa, Overnight at an Tortilis Camp on a full board basis. Day 3Following early breakfast, there will be a brief game drive en route to the airstrip for the scheduled flight back to Nairobi. Upon arrival, you will be met and transferred to a city centre hotel where your safari ends. Tortilis Camp Tortilis lies in unspoilt woodland on the edge of Amboseli National Park. The main lodge is open sided, where guests can relax and gaze out towards the soaring snow-capped peak of Mount Kilimanjaro – a great place for sundowners and enjoying delicious Italian food! Luxury thatch roofed tents are scattered among acacia and comprise of a stone veranda, elegant bathrooms, king size beds and many traditional decorations. Tortilis also provide interesting nature walks guided by local Masai. These are fascinating, as local traditions and medicinal/folk lore are heartily discussed. Within Amboseli, the elephants are very habituated to people (it is the site of the longest running elephant study in the world) and visitors may relax here, to observe the herds. There are also lion, a high concentration of hyena, cape buffalo, waterbuck and serval among many others. With over four hundred bird species including flamingo, a variety of waders and one weaver particular to Amboseli, the birding is excellent. |
